The San Diego Padres and the Cincinnati Reds face off on Tuesday at PETCO Park for game two of their series.
The San Diego Padres didn’t have much offense on Monday but they had just enough to get the win over the Reds. Tommy Medica had the only hit for the Padres and Everth Cabrera had a RBI as the Padres scored the game’s only run. Starting pitcher Jesse Hahn allowed three hits and struck out nine over 5.0 innings to get the win and go to 4-1 for the season and Huston Street earned his 22nd save. For Tuesday’s game the Padres start Ian Kennedy who has lost his last three decisions. For the season Kennedy has allowed 100 hits and 46 earned runs while striking out 111 over 103.1 innings for a 5-9 record and a 4.01 ERA.

The Cincinnati Reds never got the offense in gear on Monday as they lost to the Padres. Billy Hamilton, Joey Votto, and Todd Frazier each had hits as the Reds failed to score on five hits. Starting pitcher Mat Latos allowed one hit and one run as he struck out four over 7.0 innings to fall to 1-1 for the season. For Tuesday’s game the Reds start Mike Leake who has won his last three starts. For the season Leake has allowed 101 hits and 41 earned runs while striking out 84 over 108.1 innings for a 6-6 record and a 3.41 ERA.
San Diego is 5-12 following a win, 5-2 when allowing two or less runs in their previous game, and 1-6 in Kennedy’s last seven starts in game two of a series. Cincinnati is 5-2 in their last seven games, 6-3 as a road favorite, and 2-5 in Leake’s last seven starts as a favorite.
We saw nothing happening offensively on Monday and I don’t expect a ton more here so my free pick is the under. My stronger play is on the winning side and I will post that in the Premium Area as well as on the App.
