The Arizona Diamondbacks continue their series at PNC Park with the Pittsburgh Pirates Wednesday.
The Diamondbacks are still trying to climb out of the National League West basement but their problems at this stage in the season greater. The Snakes own one of the poorest record in the game which is not a good thing when San Francisco and the Dodgers share the same division and things didn't improve in a 3-2 defeat at Pittsburgh. Wade Miley had a shutout going until giving up a pair of 9th inning runs with Addison Reed blowing the save and taking the loss. The bats racked up eleven hits but managed RBI singles from Miguel Montero and Aaron Hill. The Diamondbacks turn to Chase Anderson on the hill for his first career start versus Pittsburgh. Anderson has dropped three in a row to fall to 5-3 on the year with a 3.63 ERA.

The Pirates have been playing well but they must play even better to make up some ground in the National League Central. The problem Pittsburgh faces is there are three other quality teams competing for the division so there is zero room for losses. A 9th inning rally saved the Buccos Tuesday but Jeff Locke threw well after some early issues. Locke gave up both runs on eight hits through eight innings but appeared headed for the loss before the offense came to life in the 9th. Starling Marte doubled in two runs to tie it with Ike Davis ripping a walkoff pinch hit single for the win. Charlie Morton looks to duplicate his last performance when he faces Arizona for the first time in 2014. Morton allowed two earned runs through seven innings of a 5-1 defeat at Tampa Bay.
I think Morton has the advantage on the hill with Anderson only having eight starts. The Pirates are playing well so I'm inclined to go with them here...
