The Baltimore Orioles and Boston Red Sox collide in game two of the twin bill on Saturday night.
Baltimore is the biggest threat to Toronto in the American League East right now. I say right now because the division has been historically tough and today's top teams aren't necessarily going to be at the top in a few weeks. The Orioles are challenging for first because they can hit with anybody in the division and will beat anybody if the pitching holds up. If the Birds can remain consistent on the mound and at the plate going forward they will be tough to ignore in the East. Baltimore turns to Ubaldo Jimenez in game number two of the doubleheader at Fenway Park. Jimenez would like to duplicate his last outing where he allowed an unearned run over eight innings of a 7-1 win versus Texas.

The Red Sox might be the biggest disappointment in the game right now and are certainly disappointing in the American League East not that the rest of the division is upset about their predicament. The Red Sox dominated the East in 2013 on the way to winning the World Series but the bottom line is the work on the mound and at the plate has not been consistent or strong enough to be a threat in any division. The question is whether the team is strong enough to turn things around in the second half of 2014 or was last season just a flash in the pan performance. The Red Sox send John Lackey to the hill in the second game of the twin bill with the Orioles. Lackey needs to rebound from his last start where he gave up five runs in five frames in an 8-5 win over the Yankees.
I don't love the pitching match up although both guys have had quality performances. Lackey has been more consistent for the most part so I give him the edge but I won't touch Boston...
