The Philadelphia Phillies look to leave PNC Park and the Pittsburgh Pirates with a loss on Sunday.
Philadelphia has had a few bright spots in 2014 that has given the team hope that there was perhaps another run left in the roster the way it stands. That thinking might be changing as the Phillies dropped their 9th in eleven contests where the arms and bats haven't been able to get it going. They didn't get it going Saturday in a 3-2 defeat at Pittsburgh where David Buchanan gave up three runs in the first two frames which was it over six frames but enough for the loss with solo homers from Marlon Byrd and Cody Asche accounting for the Phils offense. AJ Burnett takes the ball in the final game of the series with the Pirates. In his first season with Philadelphia Burnett has gone 5-7 with a 3.92 ERA.

The Pirates slow start to 2014 is a distant memory but the reality is that's the reason the Buccos are still 4th in the National League Central. Pittsburgh is working to change that with wins in eight of eight of eleven after knocking off Philadelphia Saturday. The Buccos rode the right arm of Edinson Volquez who gave up a solo jack through seven innings to improve to 7-6. The Pirates totaled only six hits and walked once with Andrew McCutchen clubbing a two run homer with Volquez knocking in another to help him earn his third straight victory. Left hander Jeff Locke makes his 7th start of the season when he takes the hill versus Philadelphia on Sunday. Locke is 1-1 with a 3.46 ERA with the Pirates going 4-2 in his outings.
Both hurlers are capable of winning this but I trust the Pittsburgh offens more so that has me backing the hotter home team...
