The St. Louis Cardinals and the Miami Marlins face off on Sunday at Busch Stadium for game three and the rubber match of their weekend series.

The St. Louis Cardinals were unable to close it out against the Marlins on Saturday and a what looked to be a win turned into a loss. Allen Craig and Jhonny Peralta each hit home runs and Yadier Molina had two hits as the Cardinals scored five runs on 10 hits. Starting pitcher Shelby Miller allowed nine hits and three runs while striking out two over 5.1 innings to not factor in the decision as Trevor Rosenthal blew the save and took the loss to fall to 0-4 for the season. For Sunday’s game the Cards look to bounce back as they start Marco Gonzalez who has lost his only Major League decision. For the season Gonzalez has allowed 14 hits and 10 earned runs while striking out five over 9.1 innings for a 0-1 record and a 9.64 ERA.

St. Louis Cardinals vs. Miami Marlins MLB Pick, Odds, Prediction 7/6/14

The Miami Marlins came up short of a comeback on Friday but on Saturday they saw it through getting the stunning win in St. Louis. Christian Yellich had two hits including a home run, Casey McGehee and Donovan Solano each had three hits, and Jeff Mathis had two hits as the Marlins scored six runs on 14 hits. Starting pitcher Andrew Heaney allowed eight hits and five runs over 3.2 innings to not factor in the decision as Mike Dunn got the win to go to 6-4 for the season and Steve Cishek earned his 19th save. For Saturday’s game the Marlins start Henderson Alvarez who has won his last three decisions. For the season Alvarez has allowed 116 hits and 28 earned runs while striking out 67 over 108 innings for a 5-3 record and a 2.33 ERA.

St. Louis is 5-2 in their last seven games as a favorite, 11-5 against the NL East, and 49-25 in their last 74 home games. Miami is 3-6 in their last nine games, 2-5 as an underdog, and 11-1 in Alvarez’s last 12 starts. Miami is 1-6 in their last seven games in St. Louis.

I see the total here at 8 being pretty close to the number but I will take the over with my free pick.

My stronger play is on the winning side and I will post that in the Premium Area as well as on the App.
