The St Louis Cardinals lock horns with the Pittsburgh Pirates in a crucial NL Central battle on Wednesday.
The Pirates had won seven of ten heading in to Tuesday's bout at St Louis with both the arms and bats having a hand in the success. The Pirates probably let one get away Tuesday as they blew a 4-2 lead with the Cards winning it in the 9th. Vance Worley came back to earth with with four runs plated in five frames withErnesto Frieri serving up a walkoff homer to absorb the loss. Andrew McCutchen and Pedro Alvarez paced the scoring with two run jacks but they received no help. The Pirates look for a big effort on the mound from Brandon Crumpton who faces the dangerous Cardinals Wednesday. Crumpton has thrown the ball well over his last three where he has gone 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA.

The Cardinals will likely be one of the main challengers in the National League Central although they have been a bit streaky at times with a few wins negated by a few defeats. The Redbirds survived a shaky performance from Carlos Martinez who was charged with all four runs on a pair of two run homers through six frames in a no decision effort. The bats totaled eleven hits and walked once with Kolton Wong leaving the yard for the walkoff and knocking in two while Matt Holiday rapped a two run double. The Cardinals hand the ball to Lance Lynn who looks to contain the Pittsburgh lineup on Wednesday. Lynn is 9-6 overall with a 3.17 ERA covering 18 outings where the Redbirds have gone 11-7.
I don't have a great feel for this one as I am leaning Pittsburgh but have a feeling Lynn and the Cardinals somehow win...
