The New York Mets and the Atlanta Braves face off on Thursday for game as they close out their four games series at Citi Field.
It hasn’t been the season the Mets had hoped for but they are gaining momentum heading into the All Star Break having their way with the Braves and beating them for the third time in a row on Wednesday. Daniel Murphy had two hits, Travis d’Arnaud hit a home run, and David Wright and Curtis Ganderson had hits as the Mets scored four runs on six hits. Starting pitcher Dillon Gee was sharp returning for the DL allowing six hits and a run while striking out four over 7.0 innings to get the win and go to 4-1 for the season and Jenry Mejia earned his ninth save. For Thursday’s game the Mets start Bartolo Colon who has lost his last two starts. For the season Colon has allowed 117 hits and 51 earned runs while striking out 82 over 113.2 innings for an 8-7 record and a 4.04 ERA.

The Atlanta braves expected be hitting the All Star break on a high but they are struggling on the road in New York. Justin Upton and Tommy La Stella each had two hits and Jason Heyward and B.J. Upton each had hits as the Braves scored one run on eight hits. Starting pitcher Ervin Santana allowed six hits and four runs while striking out four over 7.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 7-6 for the season. For Thursday’s game the Braves start Aaron Harang who has won his last three starts. For the season Harang has allowed 114 hits and 45 earned runs while striking out 93 over 110.1 innings for a 8-6 record and a 3.67 ERA.
New York is 5-1 in their last six games, 6-2 in game four of a series, and 7-3 in Colon’s last 10 starts. Atlanta is 9-4 in their last 13 games, 7-3 against the NL East, and 4-1 in Harang’s last five starts.
The Mets are unloading on the Braves here and while Atlanta strings together wins, they string together losses as well and I look for them to string together another loss here.
