The Chicago Cubs and the Atlanta Braves get Friday’s action started as they meet at Wrigley Field in an afternoon start.

The Chicago Cubs have the third worst record in baseball as once again they are out of the division race by the All Star break. The Cubs are 19-20 at home, 4-6 in their last 10 games, and the are coming off of a win in extra innings on Thursday in Cincinnati. As a team the Cubs are hitting .235 with Starlin Castro hitting .280, Anthony Rizzo hitting .277, and Luis Valbuena hitting .251. The Cubs pitching staff has an ERA of 3.71 with the starters at 3.80 and the bullpen at 3.55. For game one against the Braves the Cubs start Jake Arrieta who has won his last four decisions. For the season Arrieta has allowed 53 hits and 14 earned runs while striking out 79 over 70.2 innings for a 5-1 record and a 1.78 ERA.

The Atlanta Braves are in a dogfight with the Washington Nationals for first place in the NL East. Atlanta is 25-23 on the road, 6-4 in their last 10 games, and they are coming off of a win in New York on Thursday. As a team the Braves are hitting .245 with Freddie Freeman hitting .297, Justin Upton hitting .280, and Chris Johnson hitting .273. The Braves pitching staff has an ERA 3.29 with the starters at 3.34 and the bullpen at 3.19. For game one at Chicago the Braves start Alex Wood who is coming off of a loss in his last start. For the season Wood has allowed 75 hits and 28 earned runs while striking out 76 over 80.1 innings for a 6-7 record and a 3.14 ERA.

Chicago is 6-2 in game one of a series, 1-4 against the NL East, and 4-1 in Arrieta’s last five starts. Atlanta is5-1 in game one of a series, 4-1 against the NL Central, and 2-5 in Wood’s last seven starts. Atlanta has won their last four meetings against Chicago.

I am expecting a low scoring game that will be under the total.
