The Chicago Cubs and the Atlanta Braves face off on Saturday at Wrigley Field for game two of their series.
The Chicago Cubs looked like they were going to let Friday’s game slip away late but they pulled out the win in the bottom of the ninth inning. Justin Ruggiano and Chris Coghlan each had two hits and Starlin Castro and Anthony Rizzo each had hits as the Cubs scored five runs on seven hits. Starting pitcher Jake Arrieta allowed four hits and three runs while striking out six over 7.2 innings to not factor in the decision as Hector Rondon blew the save but got the win. For Saturday’s game the Cubs start Edwin Jackson who has lost four of his last five decisions. For the season Jackson has allowed 110 hits and 57 earned runs while striking out 94 over 101.2 innings for a 5-9 record and a 5.05 ERA.

The Atlanta Braves looked like they might pull out the win on Friday but instead they came up short losing to the Cubs. Jason Heyward had two hits and Andrelton Simmons and Freddie Freeman had hits as the Braves scored four runs on six hits. Starting pitcher Alex Wood allowed five hits and four runs while striking out six over 5.1 innings to not factor in the decision as Jordan Walden took the loss. For Saturday’s game the Braves start Mike Minor who just doesn’t look like the same pitcher we have seen in the past. For the season Minor has allowed 89 hits and 39 earned runs while striking out 74 over 77.1 innings for a 2-5 record and a 4.54 ERA.
Chicago is 8-3 as a home underdog, 2-6 in their last eight games, and 1-8 in Jackson’s last nine starts against a team with a winning record. Atlanta is 5-1 in game two of a series, 1-5 in their last six games, and 1-8 in Jackson’s last nine starts against a team with a winning record. Atlanta is 4-1 in the last five meetings of these two.
The Braves win games in bunches and lose in bunches as well and right now they are losing and Minor hasn’t been the answer all season and I don’t see him being it here.
