The Milwaukee Brewers and the St. Louis Cardinals face off on Sautrdya in battle of top teams in the NL Central.
The Milwaukee Brewers jumped out to a big early lead on Friday but they were unable to make it hold up as they fell to the Cardinals. Scooter Gennett had three hits and Aramis Ramirez and Ryan Braun had two hits each as Brewers scored six runs on 12 hits. Starting pitcher Yovani Gallardo allowed seven its and five runs while striking out three over 5.1 innings to not get a decision as Francisco Rodriguez took the loss to fall to 3-3 for the season. For Saturday’s game the Brewers start Jimmy Nelson who got his first Major League win in his last start. For the season Nelson has allowed five hits and stuck out six over 5.2 scoreless innings.

The St. Louis Cardinals used the long all to come back and beat the Brewers on Friday. Kolten Wong, Matt Holliday, Matt Adams, and Jhonny Peralta each hit home runs as the Cardinals scored seven runs on 11 hits. Starting pitcher Joe Kelly allowed seven hits and six runs while striking out three over 3.0 innings to not get a decision as Pat Neshek got the win to go to 4-0 for the season and Trevor Rosenthal earned his 28th save. For Saturday’s game the Cardinals start Adam Wainwright who has won three of his last four starts. For the season Wainwright has allowed 94 hits and 26 earned runs while striking out 111 over 131 innings for an 11-4 record and a 1.79 ERA.
Milwaukee is 4-1 as a home underdog, 7-3 in game two of a series, and 0-6 in their last six home games. St. Louis is 6-1 against a team with a winning record, 7-3 as a road favorite, and 44-19 in Wainwright’s last 63 starts. St. Louis is 11-3 in their last 14 games in Milwaukee.
