The Pittsburgh Pirates and the Colorado Rockies face off on Saturday for game two of their series at PNC Park.
The Pittsburgh Pirates continued their strong play on Friday as they came back to beat the Rockies. Gaby Sanchez and Gregory Polanco each had two hits and Starling Marte had a hit as the Pirates scored four runs on nine hits. Starting pitcher Francisco Liriano allowed three hits and a run and struck out eight over 5.0 innings to not get a decision as Tony Watson picked up the win to go to 6-1 for the season and Mark Melancon earned his 17th save. For Saturday’s game the Pirates start Charlie Morton who has no decisions in each of his last two starts. For the season Morton has allowed 100 hits and 44 earned runs while striking out 100 over 119.1 innings for a 5-9 record and a 3.32 ERA.

The Colorado Rockies continue to struggle on the road as they fell to the Pirates on Friday. Corey Dickerson and Charlie Culberson each had two hits and Drew Stubbs had a hit as the Rockies scored two runs on eight hits. Stating pitcher Jorge De La Rosa allowed four hits and a run while striking out two over 6.0 innings to get a no decision as Adam Ottavino blew the save and Matt Belisle took the loss to fall to 2-5 for the season. For Saturday’s game the Rockies start Brett Anderson who has lot his last three decisions. For the season Anderson has allowed 26 hits and 11 earned runs while striking out nine over 20 innings for a 0-3 record and a 4.95 ERA.
Pittsburgh is 7-1 in their last eight home games, 10-3 as a favorite, and 4-1 in Morton’s last five starts. Colorado is 17-40 in their last 57 games, 8-24 as an underdog, and 2-10 against the NL Central.
