The Texas Rangers shoot for consecutive victories over the Toronto Blue Jays at the Rogers Centre.
The Rangers might have played themselves out of the American League West race after a poor first half but they did start the second half off on the right foot with a series opening win at Toronto to give them two wins in eleven contests. Yu Darvish was at his best with with the lone run scored over 6.2 innings while striking out 12. The Rangers offense took care of the scoring with Adrian Beltre cracking a solo homer while JP Arencibia smacked a three run bomb and scored twice. Colby Lewis takes the mound in game number two of the series with the Blue Jays on Saturday. Lewis has gone 6-6 on the season with a 6.54 ERA since his return from surgery.

It wasn't all that long ago that the Blue Jays ruled the roost in the American League East and they are still in the middle of the race despite their recent struggles. Following Friday's 5-1 defeat at the hands of the visiting Rangers the Jays have dropped nine of eleven. Nothing went the Blue Jays way beginning on the mound where RA Dickey charged with all five runs plated through seven frames on six hits including a pair of homers. That was way too much for an offense that struck out 17 times to deal with. Toronto managed seven hits with the only run scored on a Colby Rasmus solo blast. The Blue Jays send Marcus Stroman to the bump who is charged with evening their series with the Rangers. Stroman has gone 4-2 with a 4.05 ERA covering eight outings in which Toronto has gone 3-5.
If you look at the way both teams have been playing you know why I won't touch this. I will throw a pick out there but no real advantages here...
