The Boston Red Sox and the Kansas City Royals face off on Sunday at Fenway Park as they close out their series.
The Boston Red Sox have won the first two games of their series with the Royals and they go for the sweep in this game. On Saturday Mike Napoli had two his including a home run and Brock Holt and Jonny Gomes each had hits as the Red Sox scored two runs on six hits. Starting pitcher Rubby De La Rosa allowed five hits and a run while striking out two over 7.0 innings to get the win to go to 3-2 for the season and Koji Uehara earned his 20th save. For Sunday’s game the Red Sox start Jon Lester who has one his last three decisions. For the season Lester has allowed 118 hits and 38 earned runs while striking out 134 over 129 innings for a 9-7 record and a 2.65 ERA.

The Kansas City Royals scored first on Saturday but they were unable to hold on for the win as they lost in Boston. Eric Hosmer, Omar Infante, and Alex Gordon all had hits as the Royals scored one run on five hits. Starting pitcher Danny Duffy allowed six hits and two runs, one earned, while striking out two over 6.2 innings to take the loss and fall to 5-10 for the season. For Sunday’s game the Royals start Yodano Ventura who has won five of his last seven decisions. For the season Ventura has allowed 99 hits and 37 earned runs while striking out 88 over 103.1 innings for a 7-7 record and a 3.22 ERA.
Boston is 6-1 in their last seven games, 7-2 against the AL Central, and 19-7 in Lester’s last 26 starts as a home favorite. Kansas City is 13-7 in their last 20 road games, 1-5 in their last six games, and 5-2 in Ventura’s last seven starts. Kansas City is 13-30 in their last 43 games against Boston.
Ventura is sharp and getting better but Boston seems to be putting it together and with Lester it is tough to go against them here.
