The Milwaukee Brewers and the Cincinnati Reds face off on Monday at Miller Park in game one of their important series in the NL Central.
The Milwaukee Brewers have watched their lead in the NL Central dwindle away as it is a four team race for potentially three spots in the post season. The Brewers are 25-24 at home this season, 2-8 in their last 10 games, and they have lost their last two games. As a team the Brewers are hitting .257 with Jonathan Lucroy hitting .311, Scooter Gennett hitting .308, Carlos Gomez hitting .302, and Ryan Braun hitting .298. The Milwaukee pitching staff has an ERA of 3.81 with the starters at 3.90 and the bullpen at 3.62. For game one against the Reds Milwaukee starts Wily Peralta wo has won six of his last seven decisions. For the season Peralta has allowed 122 hits and 49 earned runs while striking out 89 over 118.2 innings for a 10-6 record and a 3.72 ERA.
USA TODAY Sports
The Cincinnati Reds had a rough trip to New York over the weekend as they were swept by the Yankees. The Reds are 24-26 on the road, 5-5 in their last 10 games, and they have lost their last three games. As a team the Reds are hitting .248 with Todd Frazier hitting .289, Billy Hamilton hitting .278 and Devin Mesoraco hitting .298. The Reds pitching staff has an ERA of 3.49 with the starters at 3.34 and the bullpen at 3.88. For game one against the Brewers the Reds start Mat Latos who picked up a win against the Brewers on July 6th. For the season Latos has allowed 24 hits and 12 earned runs while striking out 23 over 38.2 innings for a 2-1 record and a 2.79 ERA.
Milwaukee is 3-13 in their last 16 games, 1-7 in their last eight home games, and 2-5 in Peralta’s last seven home starts. Cincinnati is 0-6 in their last six road games, 7-2 against the NL Central, and 2-5 in Latos’ last seven road starts. Cincinnati has won six of their last eight games against Milwaukee.
Both of these teams have some negative mojo to shake here but I see Latos carrying the Reds to the win though this is a lean at best.
