The Detroit Tigers continue their series at Chase Field versus the Arizona Diamondbacks in interleague action.
Detroit seems to be the creme of the crop in the American League Central although they have yet to pull away and take firm control. The Tigers took a step in the right direction with a tight 4-3 victory at Chase Field Monday. Justin Verlander allowed all three runs on six hits over 6.2 frames with three relievers finishing the job. The offense did just enough with Torii Hunter cracking a two run bomb with Austin Jackson going solo while Miguel Cabrera singled in another. Rick Porcello is scheduled to face the Diamondbacks for the second time in his career. Porcello looks to build on his 5-1 win at Kansas City where he gave up the lone run over seven frames.
USA TODAY Sports
The Diamondbacks have been playing their best baseball of the season although it's obviously not going to make a difference in the National League West. Arizona has been getting the arms and bats on the same page in this stretch but both fell just short on Monday. Starter Vidal Nuno gave up three runs on seven hits through 4.2 innings with the loss going to Randall Delgado who was charged with a run over 2.1 innings. The bats totaled eight hits and three bases on balls with Gerardo Parra leaving the yard with Mark Trumbo and Miguel Montero driving in runs. The Diamondbacks hand the ball to Chase Anderson who faces the dangerous Tigers offense for the first time. Anderson is coming in off of one of his better outings with a run plated in seven innings of a 9-1 rout of Miami.
I don't think we should overlook the Diamondbacks here but Porcello has been very good and has a huge experience advantage over Anderson. The price is right to back Detroit...
