The Atlanta Braves and the Miami Marlins face off on Tuesday for game two of their series.
It has been a season of streaks for the Braves and they can only hope that Monday’s loss to the Marlins isn’t the start of a losing streak. Justin Upton and Jason Heyward each had hits and Evan Gattis had a hit as the Braves scored one run on six hits. Starting pitcher Julio Teheran allowed four hits and a run while striking out 11 over 7.0 innings to not get a decision as Shae Simmons took the loss. For Tuesday’s game the Braves start Mike Minor who got he win in his last stat despite being hit hard. For the season Minor has allowed 100 hits and 45 earned runs while striking out 79 over 83.1 innings for a 3-5 record and a 4.86 ERA.

The Miami Marlins may not have enough o contend over the long term this season but they outlasted the Braves on Monday to get the win in extra innings. Jarrod Saltalamacchia hit a home run and Christian Yellich and Garrett Jones had two hits each as the Marlins scored three runs on eight hits. Starting pitcher Tom Koehler allowed five hits and a run while striking out seven over 6.2 innings to not get a decision as Bryan Morris got the win to go to 7-0 for the season and Steve Cishek earned his 22nd save. For Tuesday’s game the Marlins start Jacob Turner who has worked out of the bullpen in his last eight appearances. For the season Turner has allowed 86 hits and 44 earned runs while striking out 4 over 63.2 innings for a 2-6 record and a 6.22 ERA.
Atlanta is 4-1 as a favorite, 7-3 in their last 10 home games, and 5-2 in Minor’s last seven starts. Miami is 4-1 on the road against a left-handed starter, 2-6 in their last eight games, and 1-4 in Turner’s last five starts as an underdog. Miami is 3-5 in their last eight games in Atlanta.
There aren’t too many circumstances where I would be laying these kind of odds on Minor and this doesn’t look to be one of those spots either so my play is Miami.
