The Washington Nationals look to pick up a game in the standings with a win at Colorado Tuesday.

Washington has been playing well and the reward is the top spot in the National League East but their grip is tenuous and holding on to the lead is going to be tough with Atlanta not going away. The Nats picked up a 7-2 win at Colorado Monday and picked up a game in the standings with the Braves losing. Doug Fister gave up two runs over 5.2 frames to get the win as the offense pounded out 12 hits and walked five times. The bats were led by a 5-5 night from Ian Desmond who homered and drove in two while scoring three times. Jordan Zimmermann takes the hill against Colorado for the second time in 2014. Zimmermann looks to bounce back from a 6-2 loss at Philadelphia where he allowed four runs in just 3.1 frames.

Colorado Rockies vs. Washington Nationals Pick-Odds-Prediction - 7/22/14

I see Colorado has been fading badly for awhile with injuries and poor play taking an obvious toll. Following Monday's defeat to visiting Washington the Rockies have dropped eight of eleven. Neither the work on the mound or at the plate got the job done with Franklin Morales taking the loss with four runs allowed in six frames with Thomas Kahnle and LaTroy Hawkins giving up three more. The offense had opportunities on a ten hit attack with Nolan Arendo and Ben Paulsen driving in runs. Rookie Yohan Flande makes only his 4th start of 2014 and second against the Nationals. Flande has gone 0-2 with a 7.36 ERA covering 14.2 innings of work where he has allowed 21 hits.

Washington is playing well and the Rockies are struggling which has me looking at the visitors. I don't like the road chalk but the Nationals look like the better choice...
