The Baltimore Orioles look for a win on the west coast at the expense of the Los Angeles Angels.
The Orioles have been playing well enough to hold on to the top spot in the American League East but they have to keep an eye on the Yankees who have regrouped and are making a run. Baltimore picked up a valuable game on the losing Yankees with a 4-2 road win over the Angels. Bud Norris allowed both runs (one earned) over 6.2 frames to get the win with three relievers putting up zeros. The offense was the power bat of Adam Jones who cracked a pair of two run jacks. The Orioles send Miguel Gonzalez to the bump hoping he can post another quality start at Los Angeles. In his last three Gonzalez is 0-0 but has a 2.61 ERA over 20.2 innings.

The Angels might be second in the American League West but they are one of the hottest teams in the game and are putting enormous pressure on first place Oakland. The LAA have won eight of ten heading in to Monday with both the arms and bats contributing although the offense never got going in the series opener versus Baltimore. Matt Shoemaker served up a pair of two run bombs to Adam Jones through 5.2 innings but didn't throw poorly with ten strikeouts. The Angels mustered eight hits with Josh Hamilton and Hank Conger driving in runs but they left the bases loaded once. Left hander Hector Santiago takes the ball on Tuesday versus the visiting Angels. Overall Santiago is 2-7 with a 4.32 ERA covering 12 starts where the Angels have posted a record of 4-8.
Not a whole lot to lean on here except Gonzalez has thrown the ball well lately while the Angels have struggled to win with Santiago so the Orioles as dogs might be worth a shot...
