The New York Mets and Seattle Mariners square off ate Safeco Field in game two of their series.
The Mets are still in the National League East race put the window might be shutting on them with Washington getting hot and battling Atlanta in what could be a two team race very soon. The New Yorkers took a step in the wrong direction in a 5-2 defeat at San Diego on Monday night. Jon Niese had an off night on the mound with four runs scored on eleven hits over six frames to fall to 5-5. David Wright recorded the lone RBI while logging a pair of hits. Jacob deGrom shoots for his third straight win when he gets the call to the hill to face Seattle for the first time. DeGrom has allowed a single run in consecutive victories over 14 innings of work.

Seattle and the postseason haven't been used in the same sentence often but the Mariners could change that in 2014 if the arms and bats get on the same page frequently going forward. The Mariners got exactly what they needed Monday with a struggling Roenis Elias providing a boost on the mound. Elias gave up a lone run through 5.1 innings while striking out eight to even his record at 8-8. The Mariners racked up 14 hits and walked twice with Mike Zunino leaving the yard while while Kyle Seager posted two hits and knocked in a pair. Erasmo Ramirez toes the rubber for his first start in nearly a month when he takes the hill versus the Mets for the first time. Ramirez has been outstanding at times and struggled at times and needs to be consistent.
I think deGrom has the pitching edge with Ramirez being tough to nail down but I'm going with the better team at home...
