The Oakland Athletics host the Houston Astros in game number two of their AL West series.
Houston went through a few weeks where they were as hot as any team but they have since been pulling back and are in a battle to achieve respectability. Tuesday's contest at Oakland seemed like the Astros were in trouble from the first pitch but even though the A's might be dominant in this match up this one was dead even until the stros struck for a 3-2 win in 12 innings. Starter Brett Oberholtzer gave up two runs over seven frames with the pen keeping the A's at bay. The bats received two RBI's from Chris Carter with LJ Hoes winning it with a solo bomb in the 12th. Houston charges right hander Brad Peacock with the task of slowing the Athletics on Wednesday. Peacock has posted a 3-6 record with a 4.39 ERA over 14 starts.

The Athletics have been playing well and have needed to with the Angels playing just as well. That means Oakland needs to continue their winning ways to fend off their biggest challengers in the American League West. Tuesday's game with last place Houston proved there is no such thing as an easy win and history means almost nothing. The Athletics receved seven innings from starter Scott Kazmir who allowed two runs (one earned) before Fernando Abad served up a solo jack to absorb the loss. The offense squandered some great pitching with eight hits producing RBI's from Jed Lowrie and Josh Donaldson. Jesse Chavez gets Wednesday's starting assignment versus the rival Astros. Chavez has generally thrown the ball well with a 7-6 mark and 3.14 ERA while the team has gone 13-6 in his 19 outings.
