The Chicago Cubs and the San Diego Padres face off on Thursday at Wrigley Field as they close out their series.
The Chicago Cubs looked dominant on Tuesday against the Padres but on Wednesday it was the Cubs who were dominated. Luis Valbuena hit a home run and Emilio Bonifacio and Anthony Rizzo each had hits as the Cubs scored three runs on four hits. Starting pitcher Tsuyoshi Wada allowed five hits and five runs while striking out four over 4.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 0-1 for the season. For Thursday’s game the Cubs start Edwin Jackson who has lost five of his last six decisions. For the season Jackson has allowed 124 hits and 69 earned runs while striking out 100 over 110.2 innings for a 5-10 record and a 5.61 ERA.
USA TODAY Sports
The San Diego Padres have had a frustrating season but they took out some of their frustrations pounding the Cubs on Wednesday. Tommy Medica had three hits, Yangervis Solarte had two hits, and Seth Smith had a hit as the Padres scored eight runs on eight hits. Starting pitcher Ian Kennedy allowed three hits and three runs while striking out six over 6.0 innings to get the win and raise his record to 8-9 for the season. For Friday’s game the Padres start Tyson Ross who has lost five of his last seven starts. For the season Ross has allowed 114 hits and 41 earned runs while striking out 132 over 136.2 innings for an 8-10 record and a 2.70 ERA.
Chicago is 1-6 in their last seven games, 0-4 as an underdog, and 1-10 in Jackson’s last 11 starts against the NL West. San Diego is 4-7 in their last 11 games, 2-6 in their last eight road games, and 2-7 in Ross’ last nine starts. San Diego is 3-6 in their last nine games in Chicago.
I see this one as a quick one belonging to the pitcher and my pick is the under.
