The Cleveland Indians visit Kauffman Stadium in the opener of a series with the Kansas City Royals.
Cleveland had won seven of ten heading in to their Wednesday afternoon rubber match at Minnesota. The work at the plate couldn't support solid pitching and the result was a 3-1 defeat. With the offense stalled a solid effort on the mound went for naught with starter Trevor Bauer allowing all three runs over six innings pitched. The bats posted just five hits and walked twice with Jose Ramirez driving in David Murphy. Cleveland opens the series on the hill with Corey Kluber who faces Kansas City for the 4th time in 2014. Kluber has logged a 10-6 record with 2.95 ERA over 21 starts.

Kansas City is among three teams battling to reach .500 and make a run at the Tigers in the American League Central. The Royals had won just three of seven as they took the field at U.S. Cellular Wednesday in the rubber match with the White Sox and were able to squeeze out a 2-1 victory. Starter James Shields was at his best with the lone run scored in the first and tossing seven innings overall but did not receiving a decision. Eric Hosmer connected on a sac fly in the first with Norichika Aoki singling in Mike Moustakas who scored when White Sox catcher Tyler Flowers dropped the ball. Left hander Danny Duffy looks to continue his strong work on the mound in the series opener versus visiting Cleveland. Duffy has thrown the ball well with a 2.66 ERA but is only 5-10 on the season.
What I see here is two teams very close in the standings and in need of wins. Looks like a tossup with Cleveland winning more with Kluber then Kansas City does with Duffy...
