The Oakland A’s and the Houston Astros close out their on Thursday.
The Oakland A’s are hoping that this is going to be a special year and it continued to look as if it might be as they beat the Astros on Wednesday. Yoenis Cespedes and Jed Lowrie each hit home runs and John Jaso had three hits as the A’s scored nine runs on 13 hits. Jesse Chavez allowed four hits and two runs while striking out seven over 5.2 innings to get the win and raise his record to 8-6 for the season. For Thursday’s game the A’s start Jeff Samardzjia who has a loss and a no decision in his last two starts. Since being traded to Oakland Samadzjia has allowed 15 hits and eight runs while striking out 14 over 22 innings for a 1-1 record and a 3.27 ERA.
The Houston Astros are showing signs of picking up their game this season but they also showed signs it is a building process as they were trounced by the A’s on Wednesday. Jason Castro had two hits and Chris Carter and Jose Altuve each had hits as the Astros scored seven runs on 10 hits. Starting pitcher Brad Peacock allowed seven hits and seven runs lasting just 3.2 innings and taking the loss to fall to 3-7 for the season. For Thursday’s game the Astros start Scot Feldman who has lost five of his last six decisions. For the season Feldman has allowed 105 hits and 46 earned runs while striking out 57 over 96.1 innings for a 4-7 record and a 4.30 ERA.
Oakland is 11-5 in their last 16 games, 41-15 as a favorite, and 1-4 following a win. Houston is 10-21 in their last 31 games, 33-72 in game three of a series, and 1-5 in Feldman’s last six starts. Houston is 7-23 in their last 30 meetings with Oakland.
The A’s are a huge favorite and while I can’t ever recommend laying these kind of odds in baseball, I would say if you need to play this one go run line or even laying 2.5 runs.
