The Seattle Mariners and Baltimore Orioles continue their series at Safeco Field on Friday night.
The Orioles sit atop the American League East at the present time but they have to remain on their toes with both Toronto and the Yankees playing well and ready to take over the division should the Birds falter. The Orioles have done their part with Thursday's 4-0 victory at Seattle gave the team wins in seven of eleven. Wei-Yin Chen completely shutdown the Mariners on five hits over eight frames. The offense did all their damage in the 4th with Delmon Young cracking a three run homer while Nick Markakis singled in another. Kevin Gausman gets the call to the mound to face the Mariners for the first time in his career. Gausman has been either good or bad and it was bad last time out where he allowed five runs on nine hits over four innings of a 10-2 loss at Oakland.

Seattle is at their highest point this late in the season for the first time in recent memory. The goal now is to avoid any kind of losing streak and negate what they have accomplished thus far. That hasn't been the case in the past two weeks after Thursday's defeat left the M's staring at defeats in seven of eleven. Hisashi Iwakuma suffered through a bad 4th when he served up a three run homer with all four runs plated through seven innings. That was game over for the home team who couldn't get on the scoreboard on five hits and a single base on balls. The Mariners send ace Felix Hernandez to the bump in game two of their series with the Orioles. Hernandez has been his usual self in 2014 with an 11-2 record and 2.02 ERA covering 21 starts.
With King Felix on the mound the Mariners have usually ended up winners. I think they do here if the offense can do some scoring...
