The Pittsburgh Pirates and Colorado Rockies meet at Coors Field on Saturday to play game two of three.
The Pirates are picking up where they left off in the first half, winning five of their seven games since the All Star break and improving to six games above .500. However, the Pirates pitching has been a little shaky recently, allowing five or more runs in three of their last four games, including eight runs in Friday’s loss. Overall, the Pirates pitching staff has an ERA of 3.68, which is good for 12th in the majors. Offensively, Andrew McCutchen has hit safely in eight of his last 10 games and Russell Martin has nine RBI in his last 10 games. Jeff Locke takes the hill, and he’s 2-1 with a 3.05 ERA and has 38 strikeouts in 62 innings. Locke is 0-0 with a 3.09 ERA in two career starts against the Rockies.

The Rockies are 2-5 since the All Star break and 18 games back from a .500 record. The Rockies offense has produced 14 runs in their last two games and that’s what it must continue to do to overcome their horrible pitching. Overall, the Rockies have an ERA of 5.04, which is by far the worst in the majors. Offensively, Charlie Blackmon has hit safely in nine of his last 10 games and Corey Dickerson has 12 hits in his last 10 games. Starting is Tyler Matzek, who is 1-4 with a 4.91 ERA and has 32 strikeouts in 47.2 innings. This is Matzek’s second career game against the Pirates.
The Pirates are 6-1 in Lockes last 7 starts and 1-6 in Lockes last 7 starts as a road favorite. The Rockies are 0-7 in Matzeks last 7 starts and 0-5 in Matzeks last 5 starts as an underdog.
The Pirates should bounce back from Friday's loss with the better pitcher and overall better team on the field. The Rockies have been a mess all year and Matzek just can't win a game to save his life. Take the road team and the fair price.
