The Houston Astros simply couldn’t figure out Miami pitching as they lost game one of their series to the Marlins on Friday. Jose Altuve, Jason Castro, and Gregorio Petit each had hits as the Astros failed to score on their three total hits. Starting pitcher Dallas Keuchel allowed nine hits and two runs while striking out seven over 7.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 9-7 for the season. For Saturday’s game the Astros start Jarred Cosart who has won five of his last six decisions. For the season Cosart has allowed 112 hits and 52 earned runs while striking out 71 over 110.2 innings for a 9-6 record and a 4.23 ERA

The Miami marlins didn’t capitalize on most of their opportunities on Friday but they did enough to walk away with the win. Donovan Solano and Giancarlo Stanton each had two hits and Jarrod Saltalamacchia was among those with hits as the Marlins scored two runs on 11 hits. Starting pitcher Brad hand was in control allowing three hits and striking ou four over 7.1 innings to get the win to go to 2-2 for the season and Steve Cishek earned his 25th save. For Saturday’s game the Marlins start Tom Koehler who has no decisions in his last two starts. For the season Koehler has allowed 99 hits and 51 earned runs while striking out 95 over 119.1 innings for a 6-7 record and a 3.85 ERA.
Houston is 2-6 in their last eight games, 4-10 in their last 14 games as a favorite, and 6-1 in Cosart’s last seven starts. Miami is 5-1 in their last six games, 1-4 against the AL West, and 2-5 in Koehler’s last seven starts. Miami is 9-2 in their last 11 meetings with Houston.
The Astros just aren’t a good play these days while Miami has been hot and the Marlins are the play here.
