The playoff hopeful Baltimore Orioles and Seattle Mariners continue their series with an afternoon tilt on Saturday.

Baltimore is trying to maintain their grip on first in the American League East with the Yankees and Blue Jays beginning to apply some heat. The Orioles have responded with wins in seven of eleven as they headed in to Friday's battle with King Felix and Seattle. Baltimore continued to hold off their challengers with a 2-1 victory in ten innings Friday with the arms leading the way. Kevin Gausman allowed the lone run on seven hits over 6.2 frames with three relievers finishing the job. The offense consisted of homers by Chris Davis and Nelson Cruz. Baltimore is hoping that Bud Norris can continue his hot pitching when he faces Seattle Saturday. Norris has not allowed more then a single run in four of his last five outings.

The Mariners have generally played well in 2014 but have begun to show signs of slowing which would be a disaster at this point in the season. The Mariners had dropped six of eight with the Orioles in town Saturday and even Felix Hernandez couldn't break the losing streak. Hernandez pitched well enough to win with just a solo homer given up through seven innings of work which turned out to be nothing but a no decision. Danny Farquhar absorbed the loss with a solo homer served up in the 10th. The Mariners had a few chances on eight hits and three bases on balls with Kendrys Morales driving in the only run with a sac fly. Veteran Chris Young takes the ball Saturday with the task of controlling the dangerous Baltimore offense. Young has been throwing the ball well with no more then three runs in seven consecutive starts.

It seems like Baltimore is just in a groove where they are finding ways to win. I think Young has the edge on the mound but the Orioles bats hopefully do some damage...
