The Miami Marlins look to sweep the Houston Astros on Sunday afternoon.
The Marlins are making the National league wild card race quiet interesting with six wins in their last seven games. The Marlins pitching staff has been a lot more consistent during this stretch, allowing three or fewer runs in five of their last seven games. Overall, the Marlins have an ERA of 3.95, which is 21st in all of baseball. Offensively, Giancarlo Stanton has 10 hits in his last nine games and Christian Yelich has 13 hits in his last 10 games. Jacob Turner takes the mound, and he’s 3-6 with a 6.03 ERA and has 48 strikeouts in 68.2 innings. This is Turner’s first career game against the Astros.
USA TODAY Sports
The Astros are 2-6 since the All Star break and have dropped to 20 games below a .500 record. The Astros offense has really let them down as of late, as they’ve produced three or fewer runs in nine of their last 11 games. Chris Carter has hit safely in seven of his last 10 games and Jason Castro has three hits in this series. Pitching wise, the Astros have an ERA of 4.46, which is 28th in the majors. Starting is Collin McHugh, who is 4-8 with a 3.28 ERA and has 93 strikeouts in 82.1 innings. McHugh is 0-2 with a 10.38 ERA in two career games against the Marlins.
The Marlins are 6-16 in Turners last 22 starts and 5-14 in Turners last 19 road starts. The Astros are 1-5 in McHughs last 6 home starts and 0-5 in McHughs last 5 starts overall.
While there's no current line at the time of this article, I'm backing the Marlins. Miami looks like a team that's on a mission at the moment, while the Astros are, well, the Astros. Take the fish as long as you think the price is fit.
