The San Francisco Giants and the Los Angeles Dodgers face of on Sunday on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball.
The San Francisco Giants simply had no answers for the Dodgers on Saturday as they fell into second place in the NL West with the loss. Gregor Blanco and Michael Morse each had hits but the Giants failed to score as those were the only hits they got. Starting pitcher Ryan Vogelsong allowed eight hits and four earned runs while striking out four over 6.0 innings to take the loss. For Sunday’s game the Giants start Jake Peavy who was acquired by trade on Saturday from the Red Sox. In Boston this season Peavy was 1-9 with a 4.72 ERA striking out 100 in 124 innings of work.
USA TODAY Sports
The Los Angeles Dodgers are back in first place in the NL West after beating the Giants on Saturday. Adrian Gonzalez had three hits and Hanley Ramirez and Juan Uribe each had two hits as the Dodgers scored five runs on 11 hits. Starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw was on top of his game allowing just two hits and striking out seven pitching a complete game shutout. For Sunday’s game the Dodgers start Hyun-Jin Ryu who has won his last two starts. For the season Ryu has allowed 113 hits and 42 earned runs while striking out 98 over 111.2 innings for an 11-5 record and a 3.39 ERA.
San Francisco is 5-1 in their last six games as a favorite, 6-18 in their last 24 home games, and 8-3 after losing the first two games of a three game series. Los Angeles is 17-5 against the NL West, 1-5 in their last six games as a road underdog, and 6-2 in Ryu’s last eight road starts. Los Angeles is 6-12 in the last 18 meetings of these two.
The Dodgers have gotten the best of this series but the Giants have gotten the better of this series this season and I look for Peavy to be string moving from the LA to the NL.
