The Atlanta Braves and the San Diego Padres face off on Monday at Turner field as the close out their series.
The Atlanta Braves have looked sluggish of late but they came up with one big inning on Sunday and that as enough to beat the Padres. B.J. Upton had two hits and Justin Upton and Chris Johnson were among those Braves getting hits as Atlanta scored eight runs on eight hits. Starting pitcher Mike Minor allowed 8 hits and 3 runs while striking out 6 over 6.2 innings to get the win and raise his record to 4-6. For Monday’s game the Braves start Ervin Santana who has been much better at home than he has been on the road. For the season Santana has allowed 120 hits and 53 earned runs while striking out 53 over 107 innings for a 9-6 record and a 3.87 ERA.

The San Diego Padres had plenty of chances on Sunday out hitting he Braves but they didn’t take advantage of enough of them as they lost in Atlanta. Alexi Amarista ad three hits, Yangervis Solarte had two hits including a home run, and Rene Rivera hit a home run as the Padres scored just three runs on 10 hits. Starting pitcher Eric Stults paid for all of his mistakes allowing six his and six runs while striking out five over 6.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 3-13 for the season. For Monday’s game the Padres start Jason lane who makes his first career start. Lane’s prior two appearances have come in relief allowing one hit and striking out four over 4.1 innings without allowing a run.
Atlanta is 1-4 in their last four home games against a team with a road winning percentage below .400, 43-14 as a favorite between -151 and -200, and 4-1 in Santana’s last five starts. San Diego is 5-3 in their last eight games, 2-7 against a team with a winning record, and 4-1 in game four of a series.
The Braves are a big favorite once again here but against a pitcher like Lane who clearly has the talent and they have little scouting on I like the Padres with the odds.
