The New York Yankees look to stay in the AL East race with a road win versus the Texas Rangers.
The Yankees and Blue Jays are jockeying for position in the American League East and the Yanks are the odd man out right now in third place. Things didn't improve with Monday's 4-2 defeat at Texas with Toronto winning. Starter David Phelps was tagged with the loss with all four runs plated on eight hits over six innings of work. The offense had a good night at the plate with eleven hits but struggled to do anything with runners on base. Brett Gardner accounted forboth runs with a pair of solo jacks to cap off a 3-5 night. The Yankees turn to Brandon McCarthy on the hill in game number two of their series with Texas. In three starts since joining the Bronx Bombers McCarthy has gone 2-0 with a 1.45 ERA.

The Rangers are pretty much done from a competitive standpoint in the American League West as the hot start they needed after the All Star break hasn't materialized. The offense has wasted some decent performances on the mound in dropping seven of ten but the bats did just enough to knock off visiting New York 4-2 in the series opener. Yu Darvish wasn't at his best with nine hits allowed over seven frames including a pair of homers but he limited the damage. JP Arencibia paced an eight hit attack with a two run single with Elvis Andrus and Adrian Beltre driving in runs. Nicholas Martinez is scheduled to be on the hill to face the Yankees for the second straight time. Martinez dominated the Yanks with 5.1 scoreless innings of three hit baseball with Texas eventually losing 2-1.
I am not a fan of McCarthy and I don't think he should be a big road favorite but that comes with being on the Yankees. I'll take the visitors but quite honestly there are better games then this...
