The Los Angeles Dodgers hope to pick up a game in the standings with a win over the Atlanta Braves.
If the Braves have hope of overtaking Washington in the National League East they have avoid the highs and lows they have been prone to. The Braves seemed to be on their game with an early lead versus the Dodgers before the pen's late meltdown in an 8-4 loss. Aaron Harang was charged with four runs in six frames with Anthony Varvaro allowing three to put this one out of reach. The Bravos did total 12 hits and six base on balls with Freddie Freeman leading the way with two hit night with a homer and a pair of RBI's but the back breaking hit never materialized. The Braves give the ball to left hander Alex Wood who faces the Dodgers for the first time in his career. Wood absorbed a 5-2 defeat to visiting San Diego where he allowed five runs over five frames.

Los Angeles has their sights set on pulling away from San Francisco and taking a firm grip on the division lead. The Dodgers have been getting some quality efforts on the mound and at the plate which was key to their titanic run in 2013. The LAD can thank the pen and bats for Tuesday's win with Josh Beckett allowing all four runs through 4.1 innings with four relievers finishing up. The offense pounded out 14 hits with Matt Kemp homering twice and driving in four with Adrian Gonzalez and Carl Crawford knocking in two each. Zack Greinke toes the rubber in Wednesday's bout with the visiting Braves. It was vintage Greinke his last time out with seven scoreless innings while recording ten strikeouts in an 8-1 win at San Francisco.
The Braves had their chances Tuesday but now face one of the Dodgers best in Greinke who will be tough to beat. I still wouldn't lay the chalk with him...
