The Washington Nationals continue their series in South Florida with the Miami Marlins on Wednesday.
The Nationals can't afford to go on a slide of any length with Atlanta right on their heels in the National League East. Washington took a step in the wrong direction Tuesday in a 3-0 defeat at Miami. In the process a strong performance on the mound went for naught and the Nats can't have that happen. Stephen Strasburg fell to 7-9 with one run allowed over seven frames with Jerry Blevins giving up two more. The Nationals had some chances on five hits and six bases on balls with Bryce Harper going 2-3 with a walk. A red hot Tanner Roark looks to stay hot when th takes the bump at Miami on Wednesday. Roark has won three in a row with 1.29 ERA over 21 innings of work.

Miami might not win the National League East but they are not a pushover like we have seen in recent years. The Marlins are capable making life difficult for any team and after knocking off Washington on Tuesday they have racked up wins in nine of ten where both the arms and bats have contributed. Henderson Alvarez made life easy for the offense with seven shutout innings to up his record to 8-5. Giancarlo Stanton led a seven hit attack with a pair of hits and two runs knocked in while Christian Yelich doubled in another and scored. Brad Hand is scheduled to be on the hill to face the Nationals in game number two of their series. Hand is coming in off his best start of 2014 where he tossed 7.1 scoreless innings of a 2-0 victory at Houston.
Washington has to get going once again and facing isn't as easy as we have seen in the past. I like what I have seen from Roark but he still needs runs so take this for what it's worth...
