The Colorado Rockies have the worst record in the national League and are tied for the second worst record in baseball. The Rockies are 17-36 on the road this season, 4-6 in their last 10 games, and they are coming off of a loss on Thursday. As a team the Rockies are hitting.280 with Justin Morneau hitting .313, Charlie Blackmon hitting .301, and Drew Stubbs hitting .300. The Rockies pitching staff has an ERA of 4.90 with the starters at 4.99 and the bullpen at 4.76. For game one against the Tigers the Rockies start Franklin Morales who has worked primarily out of the bullpen this season. For the year Morales has allowed 112 hits and 56 earned runs while striking out 68 over 97.1 innings for a 5-5 record and a 5.18 ERA.
Detroit is 4-1 in their last five interleague games, 6-2 in game one of a series, and 5-13 in Verlander’s last 18 starts against a team with a losing record. Colorado is 16-41 in their last 57 games, 14-38 as an underdog, and 1-5 in Morales’ last six starts.
The Tigers are a gigantic favorite here and while I hate the price they are the pick to win this one.
