The St. Louis Cardinals and the Milwaukee Brewers face off on Sunday at Busch Stadium as they close out their series.
The St. Louis Cardinals needed to battle until the final out but they got the win on Saturday against the Brewers. Kolten Wong had three hits including a home run, Johonny Peralta had two hits including a home run, and Matt Holliday and Tony Cruz each had two hits as the Cardinals scored nine runs on 12 hits. Justin Masterson allowed seven hits and five runs while striking out four over 6.0 innings to get the win and go to 1-0 for the season in his Cardinals debut and Trevor Rosenthal earned his 33rd save. For Sunday’s game the Cardinals start John Lackey who makes his first start for the Cardinals. Prior to being traded Lackey was 11-7 with a 3.60 ERA for the Red Sox.

The Milwaukee Brewers never gave up on Saturday but they could never catch the Cardinals and took the loss. Aramis Ramirez had three hits and Carlos Gomez and Scooter Gennett each had two hits as the Brewers scored seven runs on 10 hits. Starting pitcher Kyle Lohse didn’t have his best stuff allowing nine hits and even runs while striking out two over 4.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 11-6 for the season. For Sunday’s game Milwaukee starts Matt Garza who had a no decision in his last start. For the season Garza has allowed 121 hits and 58 earned runs while striking out 100 over 139.2 innings for a 7-7 record and a 3.74 ERA.
St. Louis is 10-4 against the NL Central, 4-7 in their last 11 games, and 1-4 in their last five home games. Milwaukee is 5-1 against the NL Central, 4-1 against a team with a winning record, and 2-6 in Garza’s last eight road starts. Milwaukee is 4-2 in their last six games in St. Louis.
After 16 runs on Saturday the bats take a rest here and my free pick is the under.
