The Washington Nationals and the Philadelphia Phillies face off on Sunday in Washington as they close out their series.
The Washington Nationals lost to the Phillies on Friday but they made Philadelphia pay on Saturday belting the visitors. Anthony Rendon had three hits including a home run and Denard Span, Asdrubal Cabrera, and Wilson Ramos each had hits as the Nats scored 11 runs on 14 hits. Starting pitcher Jordan Zimmerman allowed five hits and struck out eight over 7.0 innings to get the win and go to 7-5 for the season. For Sunday’s game the Nationals start Stephen Strasburg who has lost his last three starts. For the season Strasburg has allowed 147 hits and 57 earned runs while striking out 167 over 144.1 innings for a 7-9 record and a 3.55 ERA.
USA TODAY Sports
The Philadelphia Phillies had no answers on Saturday at the plate or in the field as they were crushed by the Nationals. Marlon Byrd and Grady Sizemore each had two hits and Jimmy Rollins and Ben Revere each had hits as the Phillies failed to score on seven hits. Starting pitcher A.J. Burnett never gave himself a chance allowing five runs on three hits in just 1.2 innings to fall to 6-11 for the season. For Sunday’s game the Phillies start Cole Hamels who has won his last four decisions. For the season Hamels has allowed 108 hits and 37 earned runs while striking out 133 over 130.1 innings for a 6-5 record and a 2.55 ERA.
Washington is 19-7 in game four of a series, 7-3 agaisnt a left-handed starter, and 1-4 in Strasburg’s last five starts. Philadelphia is 7-3 on the road against a right-handed starter, 1-9 in their last 10 Sunday games, and 5-2 in Hamels’ last seven road starts. Philadelphia is 4-3 in their last 17 games in Washington.
Hamels has been on and I like for his to show his best stuff here once again.
