The San Diego Padres visit Target Field for an interleague tilt with the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday.
San Diego is back to winning games but their fans know the good times will end sooner or later and a run starved offense will likely be the reason. The Padres have won five of six after a 4-3, ten inning victory over Atlanta gave the team a three game sweep of the visiting Braves behind outstanding work on the mound. Tyson Ross gave two runs over six frames with Joaquin Benoit allowing an unearned run in the 8th that sent the game to extra innings. Everth Cabrera posted a pair of hits and knocked in two including the game winner while Tommy Medica clubbed a solo homer. Rookie Jesse Hahn gets the call to the mound to face Minnesota for the first time in his short career. Hahn has been a pleasant surprise thus far with a 7-2 record and 2.01 ERA in nine outings.

Minnesota looked like they would cause some trouble early on in the American League Central but they eventually have faded. Neither the bats or arms have been consistently on the same page but they were Sunday in a 16-3 road rout of the White Sox. Starter Kyle Gibson gave up all three runs on six hits through seven innings to up his record to 10-8. That was easily good enough with the offense exploding forn 23 hits and seven bases on balls with Chris Pamelee, Oswaldo Arcia and Eric Fryer going deep and driving in seven runs. Daniel Santana went 5-6 with a pair of runs scored and four RBI's while Kennys Vargas knocked in two more. Phil Hughes toes the rubber against visiting San Diego to open a weekday set on Tuesday. Hughes has slowed from a very good start with only four quality starts in his last ten trips to the mound.
Based on Hughes having some problems lately I lean to Hahn here who has looked solid thus far. The issue as always is whether San Diego scores...
