The Philadelphia Phillies and the Houston Astros face off on Thursday in Philadelphia as they close out their interleague series.
The Philadelphia Phillies won a marathon on Tuesday and then came out on Wednesday and won going away. Chase Utley hit a home run, Ben Revere had four hits, and Jimmy Rollins and Ryan Howard each had two hits as the Phillies scored 10 runs on 12 hits. Starting pitcher David Buchanan allowed nine hits and three runs while striking out five over 6.1 innings to get the win and go to 6-5 for the season. For Thursday’s game the Phillies start Roberto Hernandez who has won his last three decisions. For the season Hernandez has allowed 108 hits and 52 earned runs while striking out 75 over 121 innings for a 6-8 record and a 3.87 ERA.

The Houston Astros have had some good runs this season but they have also taken their lumps at times and they took more lumps on Wednesday. Jose Altuve, Chris Carter, and Gregorio Petit each had two hits as the Astros scored three runs on 10 hits. Starting pitcher brad Peacock allowed seven hits and eight runs while striking out four over 5.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 3-8 for the season. For Thursday’s game the Astros start Collin McHugh who has lost his last six decisions. For the season McHugh has allowed 70 hits and 35 earned runs while striking out 107 over 95 innings for a 4-9 record and a 3.32 ERA.
Philadelphia is 6-1 in their last seven home games, 3-8 in their last 11 interleague games, and 1-5 in Hernandez’s last six home starts. Houston is 25-74 in game three of a series, 0-6 in their last six interleague road games, and 2-5 in McHugh’s last seven starts against a team with a losing record. Houston is 0-8 in their last eight games in Philadelphia.
