The St Louis Cardinals look for a strong finish to their series with the Boston Red Sox on Thursday.
We know the Red Sox have called it quits on the season but it probably wouldn't matter if they didn't call in their chips because the losses have been adding up. The Red Sox have dropped eight of eleven after Wednesday's 2-1 victory behind great pitching. Joe Kelly allowed the lone run on three hits over seven frames to get a ND. Boston totaled eight hits with Xander Bogaerts driving in both runs. Brandon Workman hopes to snap a three game skid when he takes the hill at Busch Stadium. On the season Workan has posted a 1-4 record with an ERA just north of four in nine outings where Boston is 2-7.

St Louis appears to have gotten their act together as they try to chase down the Brewers and capture another National League Central title. The Redbirds missed out on an opportunity to pick up ground on Milwaukee following Wednesday's defeat. Starter Shelby Miller allowed one run on four hits through seven innings with Trevor Rosenthal absorbing the loss with a run plated in the 9th. The offense produced five hits and four base on balls with Matt Adams driving in a first inning run. The Cardinals turn to ace Adam Wainwright to pitch the team past the Red Sox Thursday. Wainwright took a rare one to the chin in a 7-4 loss to Milwaukee with all seven runs plated on nine hits in 5.1 frames.
St Louis sometimes loses games they shouldn't but with Wainwright going this is a game they have to win so going with that line of thinking...
