The Oakland Athletics hope to hold the AL West lead with a win over the Minnesota Twins on Friday.
The goal for Minnesota is to break the .500 mark and get out of the American League Central basement. Possible but long shots because the bats and arms struggle to get on the same page. The offense had problems in Thursday's 3-0 defeat at Oakland with Yohan Pino giving up all three runs on six hits over 5.2 innings pitched. The Twins mustered three hits and a pair of bases on balls and seldom threatened. The Twins send Kyle Gibson to the hill to face the dangerous Athletics for the first time in his career. Gibson has been a dependable member of the rotation with a 10-8 record with a 3.93 ERA.

The Athletics are in a fight for survival despite their record because the Angels are sticking to them like clue. The only thing Oakland can do is take care of business and hope they can eventually shake their rivals. They did pick up a game on the Angels who lost Thursday and the A's have Jon Lester to thank as he was dominant in a complete game performance with only three hits given up while striking out eight for his second win with his new team. Stephen Vogt paced the seven hit attack with a two run homer while Derek Norris drove in another. Left hander Scott Kazmir takes the ball Friday against rival Minesota. Kazmir is enjoying a career type season with a 12-4 record and 2.53 ERA over 22 outings where the Athletics have gone 16-6.
Even though Kazmir is having a fantastic season the odds are huge with Gibson being very capable. I'll back the Athletics once again but I am leary...
