The Minnesota Twins hope to slow down the high flying Oakland Athletics in Saturday action.
The Twins go through stages where they win some and then lose some and their record says they have done a little more losing with both the bats and arms falling victim to inconsistency. The work on the mound cost the Twins in a 6-5 loss at Oakland on Friday. Kyle Gibson dropped to 10-9 with was tagged for all six runs (five earned) on seven hits and five BB over five frames. Chris Parmelee paced a five run 7th with a two run double but the rally fell one hit short. Rookie Trevor May makes his Major League debut against the big offense of the Athletics Saturday. May has been outstanding at Triple A with a 2.93 ERA over 95.1 innings where he has struck out 91.

The Athletics are hoping for a long winning streak or for the Angels to go in to a slump as they just haven't been able to shake off their American League West rivals. The Athletics have had great success versus Minnesota and that success continued in the series opener although it wasn't very easy. Scott Kazmir picked up the win but he did suffer through a five run 7th before leaving after 6.2 innings. The bats totaled six hits and six bases on balls with Coco Crisp leading the way with three RBI's while Eric Sogard knocked in two more. The Athletics give Saturday's start versus Minnesota to Jeff Samardzija. Samardzija has been rock solid since coming over from Chicago with a 2-1 record in six starts with a 3.09 ERA with the A's going 5-1 in his appearances.
I don't have a clue what we can expect from May but his team really struggles against Oakland. I don't feel it's wise to do anything big here so be cautious in whatever you do...
