Petco Park and the San Diego Padres welcome the Colorado Rockies to town to kick off a weekend set.
Virtually nothing has gone favorably for the Rockies for months so winning a game is a big deal. Colorado tasted victory in a 5-3, ten inning victory at Arizona on Sunday which was a nice rebound from a 14-4 pasting delivered by the Diamondbacks on Saturday. Starter Franklin Morales gave up three runs (two earned) on five hits and a pair of walks over six innings in a no decision performance. Wilin Rosario, Ben Paulsen and Corey Dickerson clubbed homers and drove in all five runs. Jordan Lyles will be on the hill to squareoff with San Diego for the third time in 2014. Lyles has been productive with his 6-1 record and 3.72 ERA over 13 outings with the Rockies going 7-6.

San Diego won't be a factor in the National League West as third in the division appears to be where they are heading. Perhaps a strong finish will lead to a .500 record along the way which would be a phenominal way to go in to the offseason. The Padres won for the 8th time in eleven contests in an 8-2 victory at PNC Park. Tyson Ross improved to 11-10 with both runs plated on Gregor Polanco's two run homer in the first. Ross settled down to go six innings and was backed by an eleven hit, four walk attack that saw Seth Smith, Yonder Alonso and Jedd Gyorko knock in all five runs. Rookie Jesse Hahn looks to continue a successful start to his career when he toes the rubber versus Colorado Monday. Hahn is 7-3 on the season with a 2.28 ERA while giving up 38 hits in 59.1 innings.
Lyles is having a decent season and so is Hahn although he is probably less known. I'll side with the hotter team...
