The New York Mets and the Washington Nationals face off on Wednesday in game two of their series at Citi Field.
The New York Mets had no answers with the bats as they fell to the Nats on Tuesday Night. Daniel Murphy, David Wright, and Wilmer Flores each had two hits as the Nationals scored one run on nine hits. Starting pitcher Rafael Montero allowed seven hits and five runs wile striking out four over 5.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 0-3 for the season. For Wednesday’s game the Mets start Bartolo Colon who has won three of his last four starts. For the season Colon has allowed 159 hits and 68 earned runs while striking out 117 over 154.1 innings for an 11-9 record and a 3.97 ERA.

The Washington Nationals continued to pad their lead in the NL East as they won on Wednesday while the second place Braves were taking a loss. Anthony Rendon, Ian Desmond, Bryce Harper, and Michael Taylor each hit home runs as the Nationals scored seven runs on 12 hits. Starting pitcher Doug Fister allowed seven hits and struck out three over 7.0 scoreless innings to get the win and raise his record to 12-3 for the season. For Wednesday’s game the Nationals start Jordan Zimmerman who has two wins, a loss, and five no decisions in his last eight starts. For the season Zimmerman has allowed 141 hits and 47 earned runs while striking out 126 over 138.1 innings for a 7-5 record and a 3.06 ERA.
New York is 9-22 in game two of a series, 1-5 in their last six home games, and 8-3 in Colon’s last 11 starts as an underdog. Washington is 8-3 in game two of a series, 6-1 against a team with a losing record, and 8-2 in Zimmerman’s last 10 starts as a road favorite. Washington is 24-4 in their last 28 games in New York.
