The Colorado Rockies and San Diego Padres square off in an early evening affair on Wednesday.
The Rockies have fallen fast and hard in 2014 and injuries to some key players are still an issue. When and if some return is a question mark and wouldn't make much of an impact if they all returned at this point. Colorado dropped a 4-1 decision at Petco Park on Tuesday as the offense struggled to support a solid start from Yohan Flande.Flande gave up a pair of runs over six frames before Thomas Kahnle allowed two more. The bats were quiet with six hits and managed to break in to the scoring column on Corey Dickerson's 16th homer in the 9th. Rookie left hander Tyler Matzek gets the call to the mound in the final game of the series at Petco Park. On the year Matzek is 2-7 with a 5.32 ERA covering eleven starts where the team is 2-9.

San Diego is obviously on the outside looking in at the National League West with San Francisco and Los Angeles too far ahead in the standings to catch. The Padres are still playing well with wins in nine of 12 after Tuesday's win. Odrisamer Despaigne picked up the win with a five hit shutout through seven frames while striking out eight. The Padres mustered six hits and walked four times with Chris Nelson knocking in two while Abraham Almonte and Alexi Amarista driving in runs. Veteran Ian Kennedy faces the Rockies for the third time in 2014. Overall Kennedy has been dependable member of the rotation with a 3.51 ERA over 24 outings with the team going 11-13.
You have to like the way San Diego is playing although you hate the juice. I'm going with Kennedy and the Padres who are both hot...
