The Tampa Bay Rays end their road trip with the Texas Rangers in a Thursday night tilt.
Even though Tampa Bay has made a remarkable turnaround from an extremely slow start I can't say with any confidence that they still have a shot at the postseason. On paper it's possible but in real life I don't think so. The Rays did look impressive in a 10-1 decision at Texas Wednesday with Chris Archer allowing the lone run over seven frames while whiffing 12. The Rays totaled 12 hits with Brandon Guyer, Matt Joyce and Sean Rodriguez going deep. Jake Odorizzi gets the call to the mound in the final game of the series at Texas. Odorizzi is coming off his best outing of the season in a 4-0 victory over the Cubs with six scoreless innings.

If I were asked to give my opinion on why the Rangers are a non factor in 2014 I would say the problem has been injuries. The American League West is tough enough and virtually impossible to compete in if your lineup isn't 100%. The Rangers obviously had issues in every area Wednesday with starter Mike Mikolas charged with all ten runs on nine hits including three homers through six frames. The offense never got going on a four hit two walk performance with a sac fly off the bat of Jim Adduci plating Leonys Martin. The Rangers are scheduled to send Robbie Ross to the hill to face Tampa Bay for the first time. Ross has struggled the past four times out with 18 runs scored on 32 hits over 18.2 innings.
Ross is in for Darvish so I give the advantage on the mound to Odorizzi and after watching the Rays offense Wedneday I'll back them...
