The Detroit Tigers and the Seattle Mariners face off on Saturday in Detroit for game two of their series of post-season hopefuls.
The Detroit Tigers have watched their lead in the AL Central get away from them and their place in standings took another blow on Friday as they fell to the Mariners. Miguel Cabrera had two hits and Rajai Davis and Victor Martinez each had hits as the Tigers scored two run son six hits. Starting pitcher Rick Porcello allowed 10 hits and six runs while striking out three over 6.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 13-8 for the season. For Saturday’s game the Tigers stat David Price who makes his first home start as a member of the Tigers. Since being traded to Detroit Price has allowed 13 hits and seven earned runs while striking out 16 over 14.2 innings for a 4.30 ERA.

The Seattle Mariners brought their A Game to Detroit on Friday as they pounded the Tigers for the win. Robinson Cano had two hits including a home run and Kyle Seager, Logan Morrison, and Christopher Taylor each had two hits as the Mariners scored seven runs on 11 hits. Starting pitcher James Paxton allowed five hits and a run while striking out two over 6.0 innings to get the win and go to 3-0 for the season. For Saturday’s game the Mariners start Felix Hernandez who is having his best season in what appears to be a Hall of Fame career. For the season Hernandez has allowed 123 hits and 29 earned runs while striking out 194 over 180.1 innings for a 13-3 record and a 1.95 ERA.
Detroit is 5-1 as a home favorite, 9-3 in their last 12 home games against a team with a winning record, and 5-1 in their last six home games. Seattle is 5-0 in their last five games, 15-5 on the road against a team with a winning record, and 14-4 in Hernandez’s last 18 starts. Seattle is 9-2 in Hernandez’s last 11 starts against Detroit.
It is always tough to pass on Hernandez as a dog and I can’t do so here as Seattle is playing better baseball right now as well.
