The Seattle Mariners visit the east coast to face the Philadelphia Phillies in interleague action.
The Seattle Mariners aren't going to win the American League West but a Wild Card is certainly well within reach. The surging Mariners are getting great pitching and hitting on the way to wins in nine of eleven after downing Detroit 8-1 on Sunday. Starter Chris Young made short work of the Tigers bats with six hits allowed over six scoreless frames while the offense pounded out 13 hits. Kyle Seager was the offensive star going 2-4 with three RBI's and a run scored while Robinson Cano scored three times. The Seattle Mariners kick off their east coast swing with lefty Roenis Elias on the hill. 2014 has been something of a learning experience for the youngster who is 9-9 with a 4.14 ERA in 23 outings.

The Philadelphia Phillies have made a few moves since the All Star break but nothing big which makes us fans wonder where this team is going in the future. The present hasn't been great with defeats in seven of nine after dropping the rubber match in San Francisco by a 5-2 count Sunday. David Buchanan threw the ball well over 6.2 fames with three runs plated (two earned) on nine hits before Jake Diekman let it get out of reach with a pair of runs scored in the 8th. The Phillies had plenty of runners on nine hits and three bases on balls with Chase Utley and Cody Ashe driving in runs. Jerome Williams makes his second start since being acquired by the Philadelphia Phillies. Williams was competitive in his first start with two runs allowed on five hits over 5.1 frames of a 7-2 loss versus the Angels.
The wild card is hoe Elias does in unfamiliar surroundings but the Mariners are hot so I'm counting on some support here versus Williams...
