The Philadelphia Phillies host the postseason hopeful St Louis Cardinals in Friday night action.

The St Louis Cardinals are one of the biggest names in the National League Central and are getting hot at the right time as they attempt to chas down division leader Milwaukee. The Cardinals have won seven of eight where both the arms and bats have contributed. A three game sweep of the Reds was capped off by a 7-3 win Wednesday where Lance Lynn out pitched Johnny Cueto with seven scoreless frames while the bats posted ten hits and six BB. Jhonny Peralta led the scoring with a double and three RBI's with Carlos Martinez giving up three runs in the 9th as the only negative. The Cards are scheduled to send ace Adam Wainwright to the bump who faces the Philadelphia Phillies for the second time in 2014. Wainwright has some impressive numbers with a 15-7 record and 2.40 ERA.

Philadelphia Phillies vs. St. Louis Cardinals Pick-Odds-Prediction - 8/22/14

The Philadelphia Phillies have come to grips with the fact that there will be no postseason in 2014. The Phillies are playing spoiler right now and trying to escape the National League East basement. They took a few steps in the right direction by taking two of three from a hot Seattle squad following a 4-3 victory on Wednesday. Cole Hamels wasn't his dominant self but was just good enough with all three runs plated on nine hits through five frames to improve to 7-6. The offense eceived RBI's from Ben Revere, Marlon Byrd and Chase Utley with a three run 4th negating a 3-1 deficit. The Phillies turn to Kyle Kendrick on the mound who is looking for some consistency. Kendrick has looked good on occasion but has struggled overall with a 5-11 record and 4.90 ERA in 25 starts.

St Louis is hot and have their ace going but everytime I back Wainwright it's always close. Tons of juice but I'll with the hot visitors...
