The Baltimore Orioles host the Tampa Bay Rays in an AL East tilt on Monday night.
The best the Tampa Bay Rays can hope for is to finish 2014 with a winning record which is quite an achievement considering this team owned the worse record in baseball at one time. The Rays slow start to the season has killed them but a 2-1, ten inning victory at Toronto has them within two games of .500. The Rays can thank their pitching with Chris Archer allowing the lone run over seven frames with Jake McGee and Brad Boxberger tossing three scoreless frames. A eleven hit attack saw Evan Longoria drive in both runs with Ben Zobrist scoring both runs. Tampa Bay hands the ball to Jake Odorizzi for his 4th start against the Baltimore Orioles. Odorizzi has been strong over the last three trips to the hill with a 2-1 mark and 2.29 ERA and 0.76 WHIP.

The Baltimore Orioles own first place in the American League East because their combination of hitting and pitching has been enough to limit losing streaks of any length. Having said that the Orioles scored four runs in getting swept over the weekend at Wrigley Field capped off by a 2-1 defeat on Sunday. Miguel Gonzalez was the tough luck loser with both runs allowed on six hits through 6.1 innings pitched. The offense was held to one hit and a pair of bases on balls with the lone hit being Steve Pearce's 14th homer of 2014. Chris Tillman hopes to continue his hot pitching when he faces the Tampa Bay Rays Monday night. Tillman has been a reason the Orioles sit atop the division with a 10-5 record and 3.53 ERA.
I don't know if Baltimore is heading for a slowdown like every team goes through so I'm just backing a first place club at a decent price right or wrong...
