The Milwaukee Brewers conclude their weekday series with the San Diego Padres at Petco Park.
The Milwaukee Brewers once big lead in the National League Central has been eroded to almost nothing but this has happened before and the Brewers have responded well. Not so well Tuesday with the offense stuck in the mud in a 4-1 loss at San Diego. Starter Jimmy Nelson gave up all for runs but just two were earned over five innings that saw his record fall to 2-5. The offense posted five hits with Scooter Gennett driving in Jonathan Lucroy. Yovani Gallardo takes the hill in the final game of the series at Petco Park on Wednesday night. Gallardo is looking to bounce back from an 8-3 loss to Pittsburgh where he was tagged for six runs (three earned) in five frames.

The San Diego Padres have not been playing well over the last few weeks which generally means the runs are scarce. The runs have been scarce and the pitching hasn't helped leading to defeats in eight of eleven. Both came up big Tuesday with Tyson Ross making some rare suppoert stand up. Ross gave up the lone run on four hits and a pair of bases on balls through 6.1 innings pitched. The Padres didn't crush the ball on four hits and four walks that saw Abraham Almonte go deep and drive in two with Yasmani Grandal and Jedd Gyorko recording RBI's. Odrisamer Despaigne hopes to regain his form when he takes the ball for the first time against Milwaukee. Despaigne has recorded only one quality start in his last in six appearances.
I'm looking at the Brewers who need to win with St Louis hot on their tail in the Central. I think Gallardo has the edge on the mound and hopefully proves it...
